Tongue River Cave

The Tongue River Cave is located in the Tongue River Canyon at the base of the Big Horns. A hiking trail, approximately two miles long, leads you to the entrance of the cave. The nine mile cave is filled with rain rooms, wind tunnels, claustrophobic mouse holes, and much more adventurous locations inside. If you enjoy hiking or crawling in the dark, and never knowing when a bat may pop out at you, spelunking in the Tongue River Cave is for you! The cave is always open. Please be sure to pack out your trash.

Equipment:

When you're planning to take on the big hike remember to pack a helmet with a chin strap and headlamp, flashlight, plenty of batteries and gloves. Also, let someone know you're going caving, and enjoy your trip!

Getting There:

From Casper, Wyoming, drive north on US 87 until you pick up I-90 north. Get off the Ranchester/ Dayton exit about 13 miles north of Sheridan. Follow US 14 past Ranchester for about 12 miles. Just before the bridge that leads to Dayton, turn right at the dirt road, which will lead to the canyon and parking lot where the Tongue Canyon Trail begins.
